This decorative concrete project on a new home in the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley is a true
example of concrete being used as a canvas for a concrete craftsman. The concrete was delivered to the
site with no color added to the concrete. Several days later after the concrete cures, the contractor
returns and stains areas with varying colors to give this concrete the appearance of imported European
stone. The patterns are created during the pouring process and the contractor “scratch coats” the
pattern at the onset of the initial set of the plastic concrete.
